WETEC and N.T.P Trading Company built a platform for remotely reading ARAD smart water meters using walk-by or drive-by collection, so staff can receive meter signals without inspecting every meter face. The app combines readings with maps and consumption reports, flags unusual consumption and suspected leaks after the meter, and lets utilities review and approve readings before syncing them to billing software. The platform manages more than 120,000 meters at over 16 water utilities and automatically produces figures for water production and losses by area.

Reading meters without accessing every meter face
Manual meter reading requires staff to visit supply points, read meter faces and enter results. Hard-to-access meters and reading or entry errors can add work. WETEC and N.T.P built a platform to collect readings from smart ARAD meters. Walk-by means collecting radio signals with a portable receiver while walking through an area; drive-by uses a receiver along a vehicle reading route. Staff still perform a collection round, but do not need to inspect every meter face.
Challenges to address
Manual meter reading took time and staff every cycle.
Misread or mistyped readings led to inaccurate bills.
Leaks behind the meter and unusual consumption were hard to spot early.
What WETEC delivered
The remote-reading app connects with maps, consumption reports and billing. Collected readings are reviewed, particularly where consumption is unusual or a leak after the meter is suspected. Approved readings are passed into billing.
Mobile app for walk-by and drive-by reading of ARAD smart meters.
Automatic filtering of unusual readings and alerts for suspected leaks behind the meter.
Approved readings synced into billing software, with maps and consumption reports.
How the workflow connects
Collect readings. Staff walk or drive through an area with a receiver for ARAD meters.
Check anomalies. The platform flags unusual consumption for additional review.
Approve readings. The utility reviews and confirms readings before using them for billing.
Sync with billing. Approved readings are transferred to billing software to calculate consumption.
From a meter signal to a billing-period reading
Portable equipment receives signals from nearby meters during a collection round. This is the walk-by/drive-by mechanism. Consumption checks help the reading team identify cases to review before approval and support investigation of suspected leaks after the meter.
Delivery outcomes
The platform manages more than 120,000 meters at over 16 utilities. Reading collection connects with data checks and invoicing, so reading and commercial teams can use confirmed consumption information.
More than 120,000 meters read automatically every cycle.
Used by over 16 water utilities for meter reading.
Automatic production and water-loss figures by area.
